Jin Lee is a Berlin, and Busan based media artist who creates digital interactive environments using computational systems and electronic circuits.
His installation Echoes of Currents visualizes the subtle forces shaping our environment—tides, winds, and vibrations. Embedded in sand, dozens of switchable films shift between transparency and opacity, driven by real-time weather data. The rhythmic transitions evoke pale waves brushing across a darkened shore—an ecological pulse animated by atmospheric flows, historical speculation, and environmental data.
Echoes of Currents ties the present to a deeper geological memory.
Dadaepo Beach subway station is a site that once lay beneath a shifting shoreline navigable only by boat. In collaboration with a KIOST scientist, Lee integrated tidal data from Dadaepo spanning from the 16th century to the present, reimagining the temporal evolution of Busan’s coastline.
More than a visual interface, the installation operates as a non-human entity- sensing, responding and modulating its own rhythm in relation to external conditions. Through the work, Lee opens a liminal zone where climate, memory, and transformation intersect, proposing a sensory journey to rediscover the fluid landscape and its submerged rhythms.
