Mong-Joo Son is a native of Songdo. Born in Amnam, Busan in 1978, Son remembers a time when ‘Bachelor’s House’ was the sole sea-side shop along Songdo beach. Attempting to re-imagine what the store, now long gone, may have looked like, the artist created a drawing in three dimensions.
The lines drawn in space serve as vehicles for the artist’s recollections, as tools for exploration of memory and creativity. These experimentations, these gestural lines, drawn in three dimensions open up a new and exciting dialogue with the audience. The viewer engages with the work in space and, as one walks around the piece, one’s vision transforms and is transformed by it, taking in this spatial drawing from different angles one also becomes part of the work.
