Visible Invisibility

The artist already conducted the Yiseoguk Project (2002, Art Sonje, Geyongju / Hwayang-myeon, Cheongdo-gu, Gyeongsangbuk-do). Yiseoguk was a kingdom in the Bronze Age located at Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do but perished with the rise of Silla. I employ “dog” artifacts as objects symbolic of this. My work is to excavate from the sand a dozen of dog statues that seem to have floated down from the upper region of the river. Several men actually carry out an excavation after installing a specific structure at the site. They will periodically perform a day before the opening day. My work title which is the Chinese character Si(示) that shapes innumerable characters when used as part of them. These characters are all directly and indirectly associated with the cotent of the excavation. In this way, the meaning of my work is perhaps to brood over all connotations stemming from this character.
