Busan City confers posthumous honors on the late Doo-Shik Lee, the Executive Director of the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee

Busan City conferred posthumous honors on the late Doo-Shik Lee, the Executive Director of the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee, who passed away in February.
On June 5, 10:30 A.M., Nam-Sik Hur, the Chairman of Busan Biennale Organizing Committee, delivered an achievement award to Ha-Ryn and Ha-Yoon who have accepted the award on behalf of their deceased father, Doo-Shik Lee, the Executive Director, and expressed his gratitude for the affection and passion Lee had for Busan and the Busan Biennale. The award was to honor Lee, who has successfully hosted three editions of the Busan Biennale and one edition of the Sea Art Festival since he was appointed as the Executive Director in 2007, and made significant contributions to the rise of Busan Biennale’s international status and cultural development in Busan. People who have strived with Lee to foster art in Busan joined the event to commemorate the deceased and thank the bereaved. Among the attendants were the President of the Busan Federation of Artistic Organization, the Director of the Busan Museum of Art, and the Busan Biennale personnel.
Lee was Korea’s representative abstract artist, who was very active and social in various fields. He taught as professor at the Hongik University and was also the Dean of the School of Fine Arts, the 17th Chairman of the Korea Art Association, a commissioner of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, and the Director of the Seoul Arts Center, as well as the President of Korea University Volleyball Federation and Korea Corporate Volleyball Federation.
On February 23, he passed away of a heart attack in the early morning, the day after the opening of Lee’s solo exhibition celebrating his retirement. He has two sons, Ha-Ryn and Ha-Yoon.
